Job Description
- Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Director, Planning & Development Services position in the Planning & Development Services Department. Reporting to the General Manager, Community & Development Services, the Director, Planning & Development is responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of the strategic operation of planning and development functions. This position will oversee all activities for long-range planning, current planning, development planning, and safety code services. This position will also be responsible for budgeting, department planning, staff management, policy development in addition to managing programs and initiatives that ensure effective planning and development functions that are aligned with corporate goals and provide exceptional service. This position requires a dedicated people leader with exceptional communication skills to support the department, organization, residents, and industry with efficient planning and development services.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, or related discipline.
- Formal Leadership Training or Certification would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of ten years of progressive experience directly related to the municipal or private sector planning function.
- Five to seven years of direct supervision or management experience with proven ability to support and motivate staff with varying levels of expertise.
- Possess and exhibit exceptional verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and effective relationship-building abilities.
- Passion for leading and developing teams with clarity of vision and ability to drive culture.
- Possess and demonstrate technical expertise with the ability to review statutory plans and evaluate land use, subdivision, and development proposals, interpreting plans and specifications and knowledge of relevant policies and regulations relating to land-use decision making.
- Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.

- A starting annual salary of $145,700 to $163,900, based on a 35-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program.
