Team Lead, Hog Barn - Farrowing
Job Description:
- Position: Team Lead, Hog Barn - Farrowing
- Location: Sperling, MB
- Summary: Reporting to the Manager, Hog Barn, the Farrowing Team Lead is responsible for all activities in farrowing areas and leading/supervising staff.
- Manages Occupational Health and Safety.
- Works with the Manager to implement programs set out by MLAF to achieve specific production goals.
- Manages animal health and welfare, Biosecurity, vaccinations, and reports health concerns to the Manager.
- Follows and implements farrowing group work plans.
- Monitors ventilation and heat settings throughout the barn areas.
- Accurately records and analyzes data.
- Monitors inventory of medication and supplies and places orders through the Manager.
- Ensures farrowing areas are clean, and washing/disinfecting procedures are followed.
- Reports unusual problem areas to the Barn Manager.
- Implements MLAF sow and piglet feeding programs.
- Monitors hog body conditions and animal comfort.
- Follows culling criteria and implements with the Manager.
- Supervises and evaluates staff.
- Performs general maintenance tasks.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a swine production role is required.
- Experience in a supervisory/management role with the ability to lead a team is preferred.
- Grade 12 diploma is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills .
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to live and teach Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
- Weekend and holiday hours are required on a rotational basis.
- A valid driver’s license is required for commuting to work located in a rural area.
