Seasonal Research Assistant, Crop Development

Job Description:

This position is required to be on-site.

What You Will Do:

• Seed bed preparation and flagging of sites.
• Seed cleaning, seed treatment, and setup of seeding envelopes.
• Seeding of small plot trials.
• Maintenance of small plot trial sites.
• Operating small plot field equipment such as tractors and tillage tools.
• Driving a truck and trailer to move equipment between sites.
• Taking accurate and precise agronomic notes.
• Operating small plot combines.
• Fall land preparation, including application of herbicides and fertilizer.
• Equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Assisting technicians, agronomists, and plant breeders with other duties as required.
• Some travel will be required.

What You Will Bring:

• Punctual, reliable and able to work outdoors.
• High level of attention to detail resulting in consistent outcomes.
• Proven problem-solving and critical thinking abilities in team and individual settings.
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Small plot field trial experience or agricultural or farm experience is an asset but not required.
• Mechanical aptitude with farm machinery is an asset but not required.
