Safety Specialist

The Opportunity:

• Development, implementation, and maintenance of OHS programs
• Ensure legislative and plant compliance by "on the floor" involvement
• Assist in safe work procedures, training, claims management, and risk assessment
• Standardize safe work methods and achieve a world-class health and safety program

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

• Support supervisors on the afternoon shift in investigations
• Reduce health and safety risks through assessments and reporting
• Maintain OHS metrics and records
• Design and deliver training programs
• Review and monitor on-site contractor OHS programs
• Facilitate compliance with policies and legislative requirements
• Assist in the development and communication of OHS systems
• Audit the on-the-job training program
• Support the occupational health nurse and supervisory team
• Promote a safe and healthy work environment

What You’ll Bring:

• Post-secondary education in health and safety
• 1-3 years of experience in health and safety
• Knowledge of health and safety laws and legislation
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
• Experience in a leadership role, preferably in food manufacturing
• Knowledge of OHS legislation, hazard recognition, assessment, and control
• Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams
