Senior Financial Accountant


Job Description

  • Sunrise Farms is a group of companies with primary focus in the poultry industry.
  • Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant is a key member to the finance operations team assisting with full cycle accounting duties for multiple entities and locations while ensuring accuracy of financial records, supporting compliance efforts, and providing strategic insights to drive business decisions. The Senior Accountant will also support the company in process and system optimization initiative in finance operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close activities for multiple entities by preparing adjusting journal entries, maintaining working papers and reconciling and providing variance analysis on key accounts.
  • Review general ledger for any abnormalities, investigates and resolves reconciling items on key accounts.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly close financial reporting and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly GST/HST and PST returns.
  • Assist the external audit process by preparing working papers and communicating with auditors.
  • Maintain internal controls, and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures; liaise with operations in streamlining existing processes and procedures.
  • Assist in systems improvement, implementation projects and ad-hoc requests as needed.
  • Recommend new processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the current processes.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate with multiple departments and plant locations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises .
  • Experience working with fast-paced and dynamic multi-entity organizations.
  • Experience in wholesale or distribution environment and/or public practice is an asset.
  • Detail-oriented with a sense of urgency. Respected for the quality and accuracy of their work and able to spot discrepancies and investigate to ensure integrity of external reporting.
  • Experience with ERP systems would be an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well within a team and other departments within the organization.
  • Proven work ethic and ability to work as a team and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Benefits

  • $80,000 - $90,000 a year
